A grand jury in a Manhattan federal court on Wednesday charged a friend of former New York City Mayor Eric Adams for his alleged involvement in a fraud scheme that cost medical insurance programs tens of millions of dollars.
Zhan Petrosyants, who goes by “Johnny,” was taken into federal custody on Tuesday evening and appeared in court on Wednesday, according to the Justice Department (DOJ).
The 44-year-old is charged with one count each of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
