Bayonne Fire Chief Weaver retires after 36 years of service, 10 as head of dept.

Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver retired last week after 36 years of service, with 10 of those coming as the head of the department, Peninsula City officials said.

Speaking at the event, interim Mayor Robert Kubert, also a retired police chief and the public safety director, said that Weaver did not see the fire department “as a job,” but rather, “He saw this as his life.”

He added that Weaver “lives, eats, and sleeps the fire service.”

Promoted to chief by then-Mayor Jimmy Davis, now the Hudson County sheriff, in March 2016 – as HCV first reported – he explained that he and Weaver “became best friends” back in 1995, early on in their public safety career (Davis is a retired Bayonne police captain)…
