Push to expand NJ light rail service

NEW JERSEY (PIX11) — Transit advocates and lawmakers in New Jersey are pushing to expand service on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail.

The line currently runs 17 miles from North Bergen to Bayonne and transports 55,000 daily riders.

The advocacy group ‘Hudson County Complete Streets’ and Congressman Rob Menendez want to expand and improve service. They’re asking Governor Mikie Sherrill and New Jersey Transit to extend service across Route 440 in Jersey City toward Newark and into Bergen County.

“It’s long overdue for an expansion,” said Menendez. Menendez is also calling for more regular off-peak service, upgraded real-time train tracking and possibly adding additional stops in Jersey City and Hoboken…
