UNION, NJ – A U-turn on Route 22 in Union was closed Tuesday afternoon after a tractor trailer overturned while making the turn.
The accident occurred in the last U-turn in Union right before Springfield, said Union Fire Chief Greg Ricciardi. Firefighters and police officers arrived on the scene to find that the container portion of the truck had separated from the cab when it rolled on its side. Emergency Medical Unit personnel transported the driver to a medical facility, although Ricciardi said the driver only sustained minor injuries.
Ricciardi said the vehicle and trailer were righted and removed by multiple cranes and tow trucks. The area was cleaned and the U-turn re-opened. The truck was hauling 15 pallets of boxes, Ricciardi said.
