NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) — India is part of the fabric of the Garden State – nearly five percent of New Jersey’s population is South Asian.
Governor Phil Murphy took another step towards improving the already positive cultural and economic relationship with India, forming the New Jersey-India Commission.

“It’s an economy that looks like a supersized version of the New Jersey economy, which also is another element in this,” said Gov. Murphy.
According to the State, the Commission aims to promote educational and cultural between New Jersey and India to promote sustainable long-term growth.
The State says in the last 20 years, India has invested in New Jersey in big ways, including a total of $2 billion and 6,000 jobs.
While many businesses in Jersey City’s India Square tell us they are not sure how this new commission will impact them, many tell us they are all for strengthening the bond between India and New Jersey.
