Police ID 7 People Arrested For Armed Robberies Following Pursuit: Newark PD

At 8 a.m. police in Newark responded to Clifton Avenue and Treadwell Street after a woman was robbed at gunpoint by a group of Black men wearing dark clothing and ski masks, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The suspects fled in a gray 2019 Hyundai Sonata that been stolen out of the city earlier that day, Fragé said.

Twenty minutes later, a group of Black men riding in the car and fitting the description of the suspects in the earlier robbery drove past a woman walking in the area of Grafton Avenue and Manchester Avenue, Fragé said. Three suspects exited the vehicle and robbed the victim at gunpoint before fleeing in the stolen vehicle, Fragé said.

Police observed the vehicle at Bergen Street and Avon Avenue and attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop, Fragé said. The driver refused to pull over and a pursuit ensued onto Route 78 West. A police helicopter was deployed as part of this pursuit, Fragé said.

The suspects abandoned the vehicle, fleeing on foot, at Route 78 and Exit 26, Fragé said. Members of the NJ State Police and Newark Police, with assistance from Tewksbury Police and Readington Police, apprehended each of the suspects, Fragé said.
