Gleyber Torres contributes to the Yankees’ offensive turnaround, on a raw emotional night

This had the look of rock bottom, or worse for the Yankees.

Down by two runs in Friday night’s fifth inning at Toronto’s Rogers Centre, the reeling Yankees were moving toward a fifth straight loss and things were getting ugly.

Yankees starter Marcus Stroman was out of the game, but he made clear how upset he was with the defense of Gleyber Torres, back in the lineup after being benched since Wednesday.

From there, the Yankees came alive with a barrage of hits and runs – including a two-run homer by Torres – in a 16-5 win against the Blue Jays.

Torres had two hits, three RBI and later said he had no issues with Stroman’s on-field reaction.

“Overall, I just need to be better,’’ Stroman told reporters, adding that his emotions got the best of him.

“I’m very passionate, I care a lot about winning for this team, for this city,’’ said Stroman, who “checked in with everyone I needed to check in with after the game.’’

Stroman was quickly out of the dugout to hug Torres after his long homer in a six-run sixth inning, which came shortly after Juan Soto’s 20th homer of the year – a monstrous, go-ahead three-run shot.
