By now, every New Jersey Devils fan should know what is going on with RFA forward Dawson Mercer and his contract situation.
Yesterday, we reported that talks were “inching closer,” but no agreement had been met. The deal is reportedly in the range of two-to-three years with an AAV of $3.5-$4 million.

That stands to be true today, as the first day of training camp and media day opens.
Don’t panic though, Devils’ fans. If the reports are accurate and the two sides are grinding towards a deal, Mercer could join the training camp roster as early as this weekend.
Once the two sides get the base deal done, working out the final details doesn’t take a long time, and before you know it, Mercer will be doing his medical testing and partaking in the Devils’ camp.
In the last few days, to a week, RFA players around the NHL have reached agreements to avoid missing training camp. Toronto Maple Leafs’ Nicholas Robertson and Los Angeles Kings’ Arthur Kaliyev are a few names that have signed one-year deals to re-join their clubs.
