Woman sentenced to 12 years for shoving victim into oncoming train: officials

MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) — A woman accused of shoving a 42-year-old into an oncoming train at a subway station in Times Square was sentenced to 12 years in prison, officials announced Thursday.

The incident happened at the Times Square-42nd Street subway station around 8:06 a.m. on October 4, 2021.

The suspect, Anthonia Egegbara, was sitting on a bench when she got up and shoved the victim into the oncoming train, officials said. Egegbara fled the station but was taken into custody the next day .

The victim suffered a broken arm, which required surgery, and injuries to her leg and face. She was treated at a local hospital and continued to receive treatment as her injuries affected her ability to lift and grip objects.
