Newark Teens Arrested After Attempted Burglarly of Union Home

UNION, NJ – Early Friday morning, a Union man confronted burglars as they were attempting to break into his home via the front door, Union police said.

At just before 7 a.m., Union police received a 9-1-1 call from a resident, who lives off of Stuyvesant Avenue near the Essex County border, reporting that someone was trying to get into his home. He reported that when he heard noises and realized someone was trying to get into his home, he confronted the men, and they were scared off, running to an awaiting getaway car that fled towards Stuyvesant Ave.

Police say Union detectives found the vehicle, a white Honda Pilot stolen from Hillside, as it fled the area and began to pursue it.   Detectives chased the car through Irvington and Newark until it became disabled on Rt. 78 West.  According to police, four occupants got out of the car and ran off the highway into Newark with police chasing them on foot.  A Union patrol sergeant captured two suspects on Tillinghast St.  They were arrested and taken to Union Police Department Headquarters.  The car was towed back to Union Headquarters for further investigation.
