A man has been indicted on state charges in the burning death of a woman inside a New York City subway train, a prosecutor said on Friday.
The new development in the shocking case comes just days after Sebastian Zapeta’s arrest and subsequent questioning by the police, during which authorities say he claimed not to know what happened despite identifying himself in photos and surveillance footage at the scene.
The horrifying footage shows him lighting the fire and then fanning it, watching from a bench as the woman he set ablaze roasted and ultimately died. She was burned beyond recognition and has yet to be identified via other means.
