N.J. Transit detective faced years of racial discrimination, lawsuit says

A New Jersey Transit police detective claims in a lawsuit that he endured years of discrimination by his supervisor.

Det. Brian Lee, who is Black, said former New Jersey Transit Police Lt. John Sullivan, who is white, “waged a years-long campaign” of bias-based harassment and retaliation against him, according to the lawsuit.

Sullivan repeatedly humiliated Lee through internal affairs complaints that caused “reputational damage,” threats of removal from his position and an “openly hostile” demeanor, according to the lawsuit, filed in Essex County state Superior Court on June 20…
