Have You Met Newark is partnering with Makerhoods to offer special behind-the-scenes walking tours of the recently renovated Krueger-Scott Mansion. Located at 145 Court Street in Newark, New Jersey, these tours are held every other Sunday during the weekly Makers Market. You can find tickets and more information by visiting www.haveyoumetnewark.com and clicking on “Public Tours,” or by using this direct link to the Public Tour Calendar.
The tour company, Have You Met Newark, celebrates 13 years in operation this month. It collaborated with Avi Telyas, the Founder of Makerhoods, to create this unique event. The 1.5-hour walking tour experience delves into the history, culture, and architecture both around and inside this historic mansion. Participants will enjoy a 30-minute walk through the Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd neighborhood, highlighting 19th-century architectural gems.
The tour also provides exclusive access inside the Mansion itself. Guests will learn about its history as the private home of Gottfried Krueger, a famous Newark beer baron. They’ll also hear the inspiring story of Madame Louise Scott, the self-made African-American millionaire who operated a beauty school and community center on-site for three decades. The experience concludes with a tour through the many “Maker” spaces behind the Mansion. These shops include a terrarium store, a wine tasting venue, a cigar manufacturer, and various fashion and beauty businesses. Visitors are encouraged to stay after the tour to enjoy the Makers Market, hosted in the courtyard in partnership with the Greater Newark Conservancy.
Thanks to Makerhoods‘ sponsorship, these tours are offered to the public for only $5. The ticket even includes a $5 snack break at a local business…
