HELL’S KITCHEN, Manhattan (PIX11) — A convicted felon is accused of choking and trying to rape a 21-year-old woman on a sidewalk a few blocks from Times Square, according to authorities.
Anthony Smith, 37, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with attempted rape and strangulation in connection with the incident in Midtown over the weekend, police said.

Smith allegedly came up from behind the woman and violently wrapped his arm around her neck while she was walking near 47th Street and Eighth Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the NYPD.
The victim temporarily lost consciousness and woke up to find Smith’s hands on her private area, police allege. Smith then got spooked and ran off…
