New York Attorney General Letitia James is urging residents to submit videos of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity following a high-profile raid in Manhattan. A new portal was launched to collect public footage and investigate potential civil rights violations.
ICE raid sparks legal response
On October 21, ICE agents conducted a raid on Canal Street in New York City. In response, Attorney General James announced on October 22 the creation of a centralized reporting portal to collect photos, videos, and other evidence of ICE enforcement actions statewide.
Her office will assess the materials for any unlawful conduct, including intimidation, illegal questioning, or improper detention practices.
AG: “No one should live in fear”
Attorney General James condemned the tactics reportedly used by federal agents.
“Every New Yorker has the right to live without fear or intimidation. If you witnessed and documented ICE activity yesterday, I urge you to share that footage with my office,” James said in a public statement.
What the portal is for
The newly launched portal enables individuals to:
- Upload photos or video of ICE enforcement actions
- Submit details about time, location, and conduct witnessed
- Report anonymously if preferred
The portal is accessible through the Attorney General’s official website: ag.ny.gov
