UPDATE: A man in a red bandana was taken into custody by a SWAT team Sunday afternoon, Dec. 21, after sources say he shot and killed another man with a bow and arrow then set the house on fire during an overnight standoff in Kearny.
The scene began unfolding Saturday evening, Dec. 20, when Kearny police were notified of an injured male in the area of Kearny Avenue and Johnston Avenue, according to Caitlin Mota, a spokesperson for the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office. Officers found a male who appeared to have been struck by a pointed object and died as a result of his injuries, Mota said.
Police said a person of interest was quickly identified and barricaded himself inside a home on Kearny Avenue. Hudson County Regional SWAT responded to the scene and attempted to negotiate with the individual.
