A 53-year-old Watchung man has been convicted for the second time in the murder of his ex-girlfriend, an East Orange teacher, authorities announced Tuesday, Jan. 6.
Andre Higgs was convicted of murder in the first degree and unlawful possession of a handgun after he gunned down his ex-girlfriend, Latrena May, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II said.
On Friday, May 1, 2015, Higgs shot May outside her home as she ran from her home to escape an attack by him, Stephens said. May flagged down a police vehicle and as East Orange Detective Kemon Lee exited his vehicle and approached, Higgs fired multiple shots at May, killing her, Stephens said…
