Essex County Braces for Major Winter Storm, Will Deploy 200+ Snowplows

As New Jersey braces itself for a major winter storm this weekend, with many forecasts estimating more than 10 inches of snow, Essex County officials on Thursday laid out their preparations ahead of the storm.

The county has a fleet of more than 200 snowplows and 50 salting trucks at the ready to battle the impending storm, Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo said Thursday morning at an emergency snow preparedness meeting held at Turtle Back Zoo’s Berson Family Center.

While some New Jersey towns deal with a salt shortage, Essex County was more than ready, with all four salt domes open ahead of the storm and around 8,000 tons at the county’s disposal, said DiVincenzo.

“This is supposed to be a major storm but we don’t know how many inches as of yet,” said DiVincenzo. “The thing is for all of us to be around the table just like with other situations. We come together as one family and we do what has to be done. So we’re going to be prepared.”…
