NJ cop says he was required to drive a clunker. Then came the accident

PROSPECT PARK — A career police officer may never work in law enforcement again after he was ordered to drive a malfunctioning car that got into a serious accident, says a new lawsuit against the borough.

Police Capt. Walter Richmond was assigned to drive the 2008 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, says the seven-page lawsuit, even though officials were well aware that the car was unsafe.

As a result of the crash on Goffle Road in Hawthorne, Richmond said, he sustained a brain bleed, multiple lacerations and spinal injuries. He said he underwent back surgery and that he experiences neurological issues, including balance loss and dizziness…
