Grand Jury Clears Bloomfield Cops in Fatal Police Chase (Video)

A state Grand Jury has declined to file criminal charges against the Bloomfield officers whose chase ended in the death of a man fleeing in a car police allege was used during robberies in Montclair and Bloomfield, authorities said Tuesday.

Omar Williams, 46, of Hamilton, Mercer County, died when he crashed into a parked ambulance on Park Avenue in East Orange during the July 23, 2024, chase, the state Attorney General’s Office announced.

The Grand Jury issued its “no bill” decision on Monday, according to the office, which said that “no criminal charges should be filed against the relevant officer.” Authorities have yet to determine if the officers will face repercussions through “administrative review.”
