NJ Man Charged After Online Chat With Undercover Detective

Officials say a North Jersey man thought he was sending explicit photos of himself to an underage girl. In reality, he was chatting with an undercover law enforcement officer in South Jersey.

And now he’s sitting in jail.

39-year-old Fred Newman of Montclair has been charged with second-degree attempted sexual assault, two counts of third-degree attempted sending obscene material to a minor, and third-degree attempted endangering the welfare of a child.

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office says on December 12th of last year, a man, later identified as Newman, began communicating online with someone who he believed was a 14-year-old girl. That “girl” was actually a detective from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office’s High Tech Crimes Unit…
