A fire that started in a trash can outside a home in the Second Ward of Montclair spread into the residence and rose to two alarms before crews had it under control Monday evening, according to a fire official.
Firefighters rushed the home on Beverly Road at about 5:09 p.m. where they found thick smoke pouring out of the residence, Deputy Chief Kevin Stoute said on Thursday. Nobody was home at the time, he said.
Crews extinguished the blaze within two hours and before it could spread significantly into the home, Stoute said. Firefighters opened walls and ceilings to check if the fire had extended, he said.
