Parents outraged by N.J. school district’s message suggesting students volunteer at an ICE detention facility

Officials at an Essex County school district apologized on Wednesday for a message sent to students and parents offering students volunteer hours at Delaney Hall, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in Newark.

The message was posted to the Class of 2027 Google Classroom offering volunteer hours at Delaney Hall earlier this week.

“Looking for service hours? Come help us at the Ice Detention Facility during the following days and times!” the message read…
