New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport was thrown into chaos on the morning of Monday, March 23 as reports of a potential fire lead to the evacuation of the travel facility’s control tower, resulting in massive delays for countless flights, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
FAA spokesperson Rick Breitenfeldt confirmed the situation to the media, saying that the source of a suspicious “odor” reported approximately 7:30 a.m. that lead to the personnel evacuation was investigation.
“Arrivals and departures are temporarily paused at (the airport) in New Jersey after air traffic controllers evacuated the tower because of a burning smell coming from an elevator,” he said in a statement…
