Montclair Gas Station Gets Green Light for Convenience Store

The owners of a Montclair gas station adjacent to Watchung Plaza have the town’s approval to build a convenience store on the corner property, despite concerns about traffic safety at what residents said is an already problematic intersection.

The Zoning Board of Adjustment approved owners Jernail Singh and Novdeep Singh Sandu’s application to expand the existing building on the site at 120 Watchung Ave. and build the convenience store, replacing the existing auto repair shop. The board approved the application by a 6-1 vote on April 22.

“Very definitely, there are traffic issues. There is no question about it,” Board Chairman John McCullough said. “I don’t know that this gas station/convenience store adds to that.”
