Chrysler museum, Norfolk Arts honor Black Music Month with a Saturday event

The Attucks Theatre — one of the nation’s oldest theaters built and operated by African Americans — will host a Black Music & Art Celebration Saturday. The lineup includes jazz, gospel, hip-hop and more, along with poetry and discussions of the arts.

The event starts at noon with performances by the Bobby Blackhat Band, followed by an artist chat with WHRO’s Kayda Plus, Chrysler Museum of Art curator Nyree Dowdy and artist Briana Ariel.

Other acts include the Hot Gumbo Brass Band, the Shark City Drum and Dance Corp, and Teens With a Purpose’s new poet laureates…
