Man indicted on first-degree murder and weapons charges for 2022 Newport News homicide

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man has been indicted on first-degree murder and weapons charges in connection with a 2022 homicide.

Michael Tavon Moore, 34, is facing grand jury and term hearings on July 13 in connection with the shooting death of James Curtis Jones, 32. He has been charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in a felony and violent felony possession or transportation of a weapon, according to the Newport News Circuit Court.

Jones died on Dec. 7, 2022, in the 1300 block of Hampton Drive after being shot multiple times. Police arrested and charged Moore in connection with the crime in November 2025…
