Hampton Just Nearly Tripled Its Own Homecoming Number

Hampton University’s homecoming economic impact estimate just jumped to $8 million–$10 million for the 2026 celebration, a dramatic revision from the $3 million figure the university cited for its 2024 homecoming. That’s not a modest bump. It’s close to a tripling of the estimate in just two years, and this time Hampton is backing it with actual visitor data instead of a projection.

The new number comes from Hampton’s announcement of Homecoming Week 2026, running October 18-25 under the theme “There’s No Place Like Our Home by the Sea.” President Darrell K. Williams framed the shift as proof of concept rather than a fluke. “Homecoming is one of those extraordinary moments when you can see, hear and feel the reach of Hampton University,” Williams said in the announcement.
