Rape suspect arrested in Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) – A York County man was arrested on Sunday in connection with an assault on Scotland Street.

According to Williamsburg police, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Scotland Street on Jan. 21 at approximately 1:50 a.m. for an assault. Police say that 41-year-old Orlando Rivera raped a 36-year-old female in an alley.

The victim suffered minor injuries and was transferred to a Riverside Doctors’ Hospital.

Williamsburg police say that Rivera was not at the scene when police arrived. Rivera was later detained at his residence at 8 a.m. the same day, and was transferred to the Virginia Regional Peninsula Jail.

The victim and Rivera were seen at the Brickhouse Tavern before the incident took place, police say.

Rivera is currently charged with rape through the use of the victim’s mental incapacity or physical helplessness.
