Police looking for ‘armed and dangerous’ man wanted for Virginia double homicide

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, Va. — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday it was looking to arrest Joseph Lee Powell in connection to a weekend double homicide .

Powell, 37, of Virginia was already wanted in Brunswick County for a probation violation.

He is now also wanted for:

  • Murder
  • Use of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Violent Convicted Felon.

The sheriff’s office said Powell should be considered armed and dangerous.
He has connections to Brunswick County, Richmond, and Chesapeake.

Investigators have not yet released the identities of the man and woman found dead near Blue Bird Road on Sunday morning.

“The identities of the victims are still unconfirmed and proper family notifications have not occurred, so their names will not be provided to the public at this time,” Brunswick Captain Joey Lopresti said.

The Crime

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at 9:20 a.m. regarding a man’s body found in a ditch.
