Amtrak train headed for Williamsburg, Newport News involved in crash

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — An Amtrak train headed to Williamsburg and Newport News was stopped after a crash Thursday morning in New Kent County.

The New Kent County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the train hit a vehicle at the Riverside Drive railroad crossing.

Photos sent in to 10 On Your Side from a viewer showed the train next to a crashed truck and trailer, which was towing a boat. It appears the train hit the trailer/boat.

The sheriff’s office says no one was hurt, but the railroad crossing will be closed for an undetermined amount of time.

A message sent to Amtrak customers said Train 67 would continue to be held as Amtrak personnel worked with local authorities. The train eventually was cleared to head out after noon.

The train originated from Boston at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday , went down the East Coast to Richmond, and was set to stop its journey Thursday in Newport News.
