SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man who was pinned to a tree on Bennett’s Creek Lane in Suffolk about 20 feet above the ground was rescued Monday, Suffolk Fire & Rescue said.
The man was rescued from the tree in the 5900 block of Bennett’s Creek Lane after a tree branch that had become tangled in his safety gear pinned him, Suffolk Fire & Rescue said.
Crews responded around 6:15 p.m. to find a man pinned in a tree about 20 feet in the air in the 5900 block of Bennett’s Creek Lane, and while the man was alert and oriented, he was pinned in the tree by his harness due to a very large tree branch that had become tangled in his safety gear, Suffolk Fire & Rescue said.
The man was said to be in extreme pain and discomfort because of pressure being put on his lower extremities, and it required a technical rescue response, Suffolk Fire & Rescue said.
Crews worked to build systems to secure the large tree limb that had pinned the man. That included a lifting system, progress capture and a lowering system, with the man being put into a patient harness and removed safely from the elevated position once the tree limb’s weight was taken off of him. Around 6:37 p.m., the man was lowered safely to the ground.
