Virginia Zoo to host Sensory Friendly Morning

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Zoo in Norfolk announced a sensory morning for guests to visit in a calmer environment.

The event, sponsored by Southern Bank, is scheduled for Sunday, March 30, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Those interested in attending must reserve a ticket, which can be purchased here .

A schedule of events throughout the day can be found below:

  • Biofact Carts — 9:30 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. — hands-on exploration using animal artifacts
    • Touch of the Wild Comparison at Zebra Habitat on the Africa Trail
    • Colors of Nature at Cassowary Habitat on the Asia: Trail
  • Activity Carts — 9:30 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. — hands-on activities
    • Orangutan Treetops at the Orangutan Habitat on the Asia: Trail of the Tiger
    • Animal Kitchen/Diet Prep at the Animal Wellness Campus
  • Nature Play — 9:30 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. — exploring nature at the Run Wild Nature Discovery Zone
  • Up-Close-Zoo — 9:30 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. — an up-close look at various animal ambassadors
    • To limit stimulation, only 15 guests will be allowed in every 20 minutes from 9:50 a.m. through 12:50 p.m.
  • Virginia Zoo Express Train interactions — 9:30 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. — the train will not be running
  • Zoo Tales – Colors and Shapes — noon — learning about colors and shapes through story while meeting an animal ambassador at the Zoo Live Stage

Individuals with an ADA-Recognized Disability, along with one companian, will be able to receive free admission upon request at the ticket booth…
