Jury sees murder weapon, grim scenes in Southampton Co. murder trial

COURTLAND, Va. (WAVY) — The jury in the murder case against James Goodwyn Jr. saw the murder weapon and grim scenes inside the home of Cynthia Carver, 36, who was killed in the spring of 2019.

Goodwyn faces one count of first-degree murder in Carver’s 2019 death.

A man from North Carolina testified Tuesday afternoon for the Commonwealth that he had a relationship with Carver, and had sex with her the day before she went missing.

On cross-examination, Defense Attorney James Ellenson asked the married man if he was sorry that Carver is dead. The man responded yes — and said six years later, his wife does not know about it to this day…
