Routine tide gate testing at Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel to impact I-64 traffic

HAMPTON/NORFOLK, V.A. (WAVY) – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will conduct routine tide gate testing at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (HRBT) beginning at 2 A.M. on Sunday, May 4, to ensure tunnel facilities are prepared for possible adverse weather conditions.

Drivers traveling on I-64 to the HRBT at this time should expect delays up to 60 minutes in each direction. Drivers are encouraged to use I-664, Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel as an alternate route to avoid delays.

Crews will first test the eastbound gates from 2 A.M. to 3 A.M. and all eastbound traffic will be stopped. Then, from 3 A.M. to 4 A.M., all westbound traffic will be stopped to test the westbound gates…
