SMITHFIELD, Va. — Authorities are investigating a “threat referencing a possible school shooting” at Westside Elementary School, officials said in a statement.
School officials responded after a concerning threat was brought to their attention Wednesday evening. The threat, which referenced a potential school shooting scheduled for Thursday, prompted immediate action from both the school administration and local law enforcement.
The student who made the threat was identified. Law enforcement officers conducted a wellness check at the student’s home to make sure there was no access to weapons.
