NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Retired Colonel Samuel Malavé-Garcia is alive and well, but not according to the Virginia Department of Veterans Services, which suspended his benefits back in April.
He says the suspension of his benefits prevented him from being able to bury his wife of 64 years — a civil rights activist — who passed away on April 5th from dementia.
