Resident pulled from Newport News blaze faces critical injuries

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — One person is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after an apartment fire in Newport News on Saturday evening.

The call to an apartment on Goldsmith Place came in at 6:37 p.m., according to Assistant Fire Chief John Applewhite. The first units arrived on scene two minutes later and found smoke visible.

Firefighters made entry into the apartment and pulled one person from the building. That person was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries but was stable a couple hours later, Applewhite said…
