York County man sentenced to life for firing 100 shots at police car

YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A York County man is sentenced to life in prison after firing more than 100 shots at a James City County police car and injuring an officer back in July 2024.

‘Ambush’ on JCC officers investigating road-rage incident, vehicle shot 100 times

On July 17, 2024, James City County Police and York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office responded to the 300 block of Marks Pond Way to investigate a road rage shooting that occurred that morning. The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Andrew Susalis, fired several shots at a vehicle while driving on Rochambeau Drive.

Four James City County officers proceeded to the suspect’s residence around 12 p.m. Upon arrival, the suspect began firing at two of the James City County police officers in the roadway at approximately 210 feet away. One James City County police officer maintained cover behind a vehicle, but the man fired over 100 rounds at the police car. In result, the officer sustained minor injuries.
