Falling Tree Damages Virginia Nursing Home, Injuring 3 Residents

A large tree fell onto a skilled nursing facility in Virginia Monday evening, injuring three residents and displacing over a dozen others, officials said.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a structural collapse at a commercial building in the 2500 block of Pruden Boulevard in Suffolk at around 6:34 p.m. Emergency crews arrived within four minutes to find a massive tree had penetrated the roof of the single-story facility, causing extensive damage to several rooms.

Three residents were injured when the impact caused roof trusses and sheetrock to collapse into their rooms. Assisted by staff, all three managed to evacuate the damaged area before being treated and transported by paramedics for non-life threatening injuries.
