Richmond, Va. – Heavy rain and localized flooding could hit much of eastern Virginia Sunday afternoon and evening, as slow-moving thunderstorms develop across the region. Urban areas like Richmond, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach may see the worst impacts, including flash flooding and isolated damaging wind gusts.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a “marginal risk” for excessive rainfall and severe weather is in place for central and eastern Virginia until late Sunday. Storms will be slow to move due to weak upper-level winds, raising the risk of training cells and localized flooding — especially in low-lying or poorly drained areas.
Cities under the marginal severe risk include Petersburg, Williamsburg, Suffolk, and Newport News. While widespread severe weather is not expected, one or two storms could turn severe, producing gusts strong enough to down tree limbs or cause isolated power outages…
