HRT celebrates completion of “smart bus stop” project after 5 years

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Your daily bus commute just got a little more advanced as Hampton Roads Transit has completed installations of smart bus stops all across the region.

More than 2,600 newly designed smart bus stops are now up and running across Hampton roads.

“So, we actually started working on this in 2020, so around COVID,” said HRT Chief of Engineering and Facilities Officer Sibyl Pappas. “The heavy lifting is really the technology piece of it. Making sure we have all the software and the back offices that support people being able to take a picture with their phone and getting that information in real time back to their phone in a second.”…
