NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — The city of Newport News is celebrating the 34th Annual Southeast Community Day Parade and festival this Saturday.
The Southeast Community Day Parade was founded by Andrew Shannon in 1991 and is the largest parade in the city. This year’s theme is Building A Stronger Community.Businesses and visitors are preparing for road closures ahead of the parade. Street parking is closed as early as midnight the morning of the parade. All restricted areas will be clearly marked with “No Parking – Tow Zone” signage. Vehicles parked in violation are subject to towing at the owner’s expense.
The parade lineup begins at 9 a.m. with the step-off happening promptly at 10 a.m. at Booker T. Washington Middle School at 3700 Chestnut Ave. The official viewing stand will be located at 2016 Jefferson Ave., offering a central spot to enjoy the parade. The parade will conclude at Zion Baptist Church at 633 20th St. at approximately 1 p.m., followed immediately by the Southeast Community Day Festival…
