50-foot fall at Newport News Shipyard results in life-threatening injuries

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A man was transported to Sentara Norfolk General via Nightingale after falling from around 50 feet at Newport News Shipyard Tuesday morning, according to the Newport News Fire Department.

The man was a U.S. Navy contractor supporting work on the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis when he fell from scaffolding, according to a spokesperson for the U.S. Navy.

The incident happened around 10:45 a.m. and NNFD responded to the incident after request from the shipyard’s medics…
