‘The need is going to increase’: SNAP eligibility requirements to change in November, local Foodbank prepares to serve those who might lose benefits

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Eligibility requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, are changing, and one local foodbank is getting ready to serve those who might lose benefits.

States have until November to comply with the changes to the program set forth in the One Big Beautiful Bill. The bill passed over the summer, and along with it will come an overhaul to SNAP.

The Hill reported that the changes are expected to squeeze some people out of the program to cut federal spending by an estimated $186 million over the next decade…
