James City County Resident Dies After Being Struck by Cement Truck on Monticello Avenue

On November 19, 2024, Perry Allen Mendel Sr., 66, of James City County, was hit by a cement truck while crossing Monticello Avenue near Monticello Marketplace. Mendel was using a walker at the time. He was found unresponsive and taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

He died from his injuries the next day. Police said Mendel was crossing the street illegally when the incident happened. The cement truck driver, also from James City County, will not be charged. The James City County Police Crash Team is still investigating the case…
