Bow Section of First Columbia-class Sub Heading to Electric Boat

The bow of the future USS District of Columbia (SSBN-826) left Newport News Shipbuilding this week and is en route to General Dynamics Electric Boat, where the submarine will be assembled and tested, USNI News has learned.

Having been partially tarped and loaded onto a barge, the nuclear ballistic missile submarine bow was guided out of Newport News, Va., by a tugboat on Tuesday, according to ship spotters. Officials from the Navy and HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division confirmed to USNI News the bow is on its way to the Connecticut-based General Electric Boat (EB) facility.

“This significant milestone marks completion of the majority of NNS’ work on SSBN-826. With all of SSBN-826’s major modules at EB, the boat will begin final assembly and testing,” a Navy spokesperson told USNI News on Thursday…
