Dominion Energy is modernizing its Surry and North Anna nuclear power plants in Virginia. The goal is to ensure safe and efficient operation into the mid-21st century. The Surry plant marked its 50th anniversary in 2023 and is one of the oldest nuclear plants in the United States. In May 2021, Surry received a subsequent license renewal, allowing its two reactors to operate until 2052 and 2053. This extends their operational lifespan to 80 years. North Anna is also included in the upgrade program.
