NORFOLK, Va. — Gun violence is trending down in Virginia, but it’s still a major issue. The Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission (JLARC) unveiled a new report that demonstrated the lingering effects of community gun violence.
The report named nine cities that have some of the highest gun-related homicide rates in the state, including Norfolk, Newport News, Portsmouth, and Hampton. According to the report, in 2022, the state had 6,500 gun-related crimes, and by 2024, that number was roughly cut to 5,300.
