Felony warrants issued for driver who led deputies on dangerous pursuit

MATHEWS COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – On Dec. 16, 2025, deputies from the Mathews County Sheriff’s Office initiated a pursuit of a black SUV driven by Stanley Eugene Dixon, a 55-year-old resident of Cardinal, Va., who they said was known to have a revoked driver’s license.

The pursuit began around 4:20 p.m. in North, Va., after Dixon failed to stop for deputies and ran a red light, nearly causing a collision with another vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office. The pursuit continued into Gloucester County, where Dixon’s actions prompted a decision to terminate the chase due to safety concerns.

The Mathews County Sheriff’s Office issued several warrants for Dixon, including felony eluding, abduction and driving on a revoked license. Police located and arrested Dixon the following morning after another incident, in Gloucester County. He is currently held without bond at the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center.

Officials want to track down the driver nearly struck by Dixon on the North End Bridge or witnesses to the SUV’s erratic driving behavior. Reports can be made by contacting the sheriff’s office at 804-725-7177 or emailing Deputy Bujarski at [email protected]
